The Merrion is home to the 2-star Michelin Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, The Cellar Bar, The Garden Room, and the intimate No. 23 Cocktail Bar. This 5 star luxury hotel is to be found in the heart of Georgian Dublin, opposite Government Buildings and a few minutes’ walk from galleries, museums, the I.F.S.C, Dublin Convention Centre, pubs, restaurants and the shops of Grafton Street.
The Merrion was created from four magnificent Grade I Listed terrace houses -known as the Main House -and a specially commissioned contemporary Garden Wing. One of the houses, No. 24, was the home of Lord Mornington. His son, the 1stDuke of Wellington, is said to have been born there. The Merrion also boasts one of the most important and exciting private collections of contemporary art in Ireland, hung in the public areas for everyone to enjoy. And, true to the spirit of 18th century arts patronage, Martin Mooney, one of the country’s foremost young artists, was commissioned to paint a series of murals for the neo-classical main stairwell. One of the most distinctive and unusual features of The Merrion is its gardens. The two landscaped period gardens were designed by Jim Reynolds, the noted Irish landscape artist, whose own gardens near Dublin were recently visited by HRH The Prince of Wales.
